Architect's sleek work was revered, reviled
Walter Netsch, an architect who employed stubbornly individualistic theories to create the ethereal chapel at the U.S. Air Force Academy as well as bold, modernist conglomerations that repulsed some and enthralled others, died June 15 at his home in Chicago. He was 88.

He was born March 7, 1940, in Astoria and graduated from Linfield College. He worked for the Internal Revenue Service for more than 30 years. Remembrances to Habitat for Humanity.

Ex-Navy attorney investigated USS Liberty attack
SAN DIEGO -- Ward Boston, a former Navy attorney who helped investigate the 1967 Israeli attack on the USS Liberty that killed 34 crewmen and years later said President Lyndon Johnson ordered that the assault be ruled an accident, has died. He was 84.

A funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 26, 2008, in St. Anthony Catholic Church in Portland for Harriet Schumacher, who died June 20 at age 82. Recitation of the rosary will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 25, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home.

Tasha Tudor, a children's illustrator whose pastel watercolors and delicately penciled lines depicted an idyllic, old-fashioned vision of the 19th-century way of life she famously pursued -- including weaving, spinning, gathering eggs and milking goats -- died June 18 at her home in Marlboro, Vt.

NEW YORK -- Tony Schwartz, who helped create the infamous "daisy ad" that ran only once during the 1964 presidential race but changed political advertising forever, has died.

Special-effects wizard, 62, winner of 4 Oscars
LOS ANGELES -- Stan Winston, the renowned makeup, creature and visual effects wizard whose memorable work on "Aliens," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and "Jurassic Park" earned him four Academy Awards, has died. He was 62.
