Open Question: Being filmed in my flat by someone else without my consent - illegal? Top
Hi this is for any law scholars out there. I'm at Uni and one night me and my mates had a few smokes in my room (you're not allowed to smoke in your room here in my accommodation) and unknowingly to us the person in the room above me filmed me smoking out my window then showed the landlord this and I got a £25 fine. Just wanted to know is it legal to film someone like this then use it as evidence against me?

Open Question: Do I have to take the Life In The UK exam? Top
Im 19 now, I came here when I was 3 and have lived here permanently ever since. My whole family was granted indefinite leave to remain in 1999. All my education was in England and by all means I am fully capable of communicating in english. I am currently at university and want to apply for a british passport but the guidelines on the UK immigration website are either vague or confusing as to whether or not I need to actually take the test that was brought in in 2005. The thing is, recently I saw my last child support form from a few years ago and it already has me registered as a british citizen! I've called them up a few times (Immigration) to see what my status is but no-one seems to be able to give me a straight answer, HELP!!

Open Question: Hard men of the world time to answer who would win? Top
The world is again ruled by CESAR and he dictates that the terrorist groups of the world must fight in a giant circus. Instead of killing innocent people they must kill each other till there is ONE. THE GROUPS: SAS Australian Secret Intelligence Service, South African Secret Service Canadian Security Intelligence Service, Mossad IRA ETA RUSSIAN MAFIA/KGB United States Secret Service al-Qa'ida ALL THESE OTHER GROUPS CAN FIGHT IF THEY THINK THEY ARE HARD ENOUGH! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_intelligence_agencies http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_designated_terrorist_organizations ALL GROUPS ARE WELCOME TO JOIN CEASE HAS SPOKEN! PS bit of a man laugh but it would be interesting to think who would win if these mad men fought each other instead of bringing the rest of the world into their level. May be this is the only chance of true Democracy. Well then lets let Democracy decide. Who would win. WHAT SAY U!

Open Question: Legal advice regarding an inheritance? (it's long, sorry)? Top
Ok to try and cut a long story short. My Grandfather passed away in December 2007 when I was 20 years old and left me a sum of money in his will to be released on my 24th birthday. At the time I was a week away from being married and had been in a stable home and relationship for 3 years, which I am still in to this day. Without going into too much detail, my father has somehow made himself completely responsible for this money and told the executors that I was living at his address (he lives over 100 miles away from me) and all correspondence was to go through him. My brother was also left some money to be released on his 28th birthday and when his money was released it was sent in the form of a cheque to my fathers address. When my brother went to pick it up he was handed about 10 letters addressed to him at my fathers address and the cheque, all of which had been opened. My brother gave me the details of the solicitors in charge of the estate and I contacted them by email just to ask why I had received no information and why everything was being sent to my fathers address. I had a letter back just telling me the amount I had been left and asking me to send my birth certificate closer to the time the money was due for release. Next thing I know, I have my father on the phone asking me why i contacted the solicitor etc... so they are obviously in cahoots with him. I am wondering why, when I am a 23 year old woman with my own home and life, that my father has somehow managed to take control of it all even when I have informed the solicitors of my situation? That just doesn't seem right to me. I am also worried about my father contesting the will. We have not had a very good relationship over the years and I am about ready to end the relationship all together for reasons that I won't disclose on here. I am worried though that, as he seems to have managed to take control somehow, he will contest the will and I will lose the money. Can anyone give me any advice? I was thinking of getting an appointment with a solicitor but wanted to make sure I actually have something to talk about if you know what I mean. I just wanted to add that, although this post may not come across in a very good light. I am extremely grateful to my Grandad for thinking of me and caring enough to leave me anything at all.

Open Question: How do I stop my older brother joining the Marines? Top
My brother is 21 and when he finishes his degree, he says he wants to join the Royal Marine Commandos as an Officer. This is insane! He doesn't know what he's getting into. I tell him that he'll have to kill people and he might get shot himself, but he doesn't listen! I think he's watched too many films and played too much Call of Duty and other army games over the years. It's unfair! I don't want him to be a tool of the corporations fat cats. omg r all of you like.. pro-war or something on this section? All the Royal Marines are infantry!

Open Question: What do you think of Peter Mandelson's view of European power over us in Britain ? Top
http://blogs.reuters.com/uknews/2010/02/26/mandelson-slip-up-confirms-eurosceptics-fears/ Mandelson slip-up confirms eurosceptics' fears: Business minister Peter Mandelson built his reputation as a sure-footed communicator for the Labour Party, but the former EU trade commissioner suffered a rare slip-up on Friday when he confirmed many eurosceptics' fears that the European Commission relished its lack of democratic accountability. "The best principle of the European Commission ever invented was that it should not be elected — that it was remote, unaccountable, a major bureaucracy that could do good for Europe and can take the risks of saying things and doing things that are not as easy to do in the member states," said Mandelson. The remarks to French students in Paris were at least partly in jest, and prompted laughter. Talking more about the benefits of working for the Commission, Mandelson went on: "We're not elected, we don't have to think: 'Oh my God, what are we going to say and do because the public are going to turn us out of office?'" Not, of course, that Mandelson was suggesting this is the position Labour finds itself in now, with an election due by June and the Conservatives ahead in the polls.

Open Question: How can I infiltrate a local mosque to find out what really goes on inside? Top
I thought of wearing a burka but I am quite tall and this might arouse suspicion. I have also been learning arabic but my accent is not very good. Serious suggestions only please as this is in the interest of national security and keeping our country safe. I am pretty sure that terrorists all attend their local mosque... they are after all religious extremists, this is why I intend to start there.

Open Question: Should the EU control everything? Top
I think yes. Home schooling should be illegal and private schools abolished to ensure children get a good education. Water should be fluoridated and vaccinations should be compulsory; refusal to be vaccinated will result in life imprisonment. Also the chip implants (the ones that go in your hand) sound like a good idea because with them fraud and identity theft will be wiped out. All business should be EU owned and the EU should be allowed to listen to our phone calls, read emails, texts and instant message conversations. Tobacco, alcohol and unhealthy foods should be outlawed and we should all live on an EU approved diet. Also I think ALL homes should be installed with CCTV and anyone who refuses should be arrested on the spot! Guns should be outlawed and only the leaders in Brussels should own guns. Religion should be banned and atheism should be forced and places of worship demolished; religious books burned and religious statues, works of art, jewellery destroyed. What do you all think? I think all these will make the EU a happier, healthier place to live; safer too!

Open Question: how to fight back a written warning? Top

Open Question: Churcill's "we'll fight them on the beaches" speech...whos voice are we hearing? Top
We are familiar with the "fight 'em on the beaches" and other rallying speeches made to Parliament in the summer of 1940. You can hear them in many WW2 documentaries, but there weren't any microphones in the commons until the 1960s. There is no evidence he subsequently went to a recording studio, so who is reading the words? Incidentally his "Iron Curtain" speech made to Congress in 1945 on camera has a very different voice.

Open Question: Should the EU ban guns? Top
I think guns should be banned throughout the EU. The only people who should have guns are the leaders of the EU and no one else!

Open Question: I need to gain some research on the judiciary? Top
1. Explain the term judicial independence. 2. Explain why the absence of a codified constitution in the UK has traditionally resulted in judges having a limited role in interpreting the constitution. 3. Discuss on whether recent constitutional developments have led to an increasingly political role for judges. Thanks very much

Open Question: I need help on some law and want to gain some information for my research? Top
I need help on statutory interpretation, so I'll pick a theoretical scenario: In the preamble to the Protection of Sea Life Act 2001, there is an explanation that it was passed to stop over-fishing in UK waters. Section 1 makes it an offence to catch fish below 250 grammes in weight. Section 2 also makes it an offence to catch seals, dolphins, whales and other sea creatures. In May 2000 the European Union issued a directive which prohibits any limits on type of sea life that may be caught, as contravening the principle of free trade. Now please write what you think on these questions: a) Describe the rules and presumptions that are used to interpret statutes. b) Outline other aids to the interpretation of statutes. c) Mike is a fisherman who wants to be able to catch small fish, under 250 grammes in weight, and he seeks your advice as to whether he can challenge the Protection of Sea Life Act 2001 using European Union law. Advise Mike. d) Jeremy is an amateur fisherman who has accidentally caught a shark and is not sure whether he has committed an offence under the act. Advise Jeremy. Thank you very much, I need to gain info for my research so I need these questions to be answered for me to gain some info on statutory interpretation.

Why don't they want to join? Don't they realise that without the EU World War 3 will happen? The EU was set up after World War 2 to stop World War 3 from happening.

Open Question: Why is it OK to murder someone if you're in the police or army, but not if you're a normal person? Top
If I killed someone I believed was a bad person, I'd get put in prison for life. But if i joined the army or police and killed a "terrorist" or "criminal", I'd get medals and a pay rise! Killing people is wrong. No matter what!

I think it is a good idea; it will help crack down on terrorism and child abuse. I don't care if those people down in Brussels see me having sex or using the toilet; I would give anything; ANYTHING to see Europe be safe again. I have no problem with CCTV and microphones and 2 way mirrors in every room in my house. I have nothing to hide; do you........? *♥* donna *♥* - What are you hiding?

Open Question: arrested for drunk and disorderly? Top
Hi I was out monday with my uncle and his friend. He had come home for my great nans funeral the following friday. We had alot to drink and at the end of the night around 1am I got a taxi home alone because I thought I had enough and should be getting home. During the taxi ride home the driver was very rude about everything I did. Half way home I challenged his attitude but it continued. I told him to pull over while i get out. He refused unless I paid. I had nothing to gain from getting out as it was two miles from home. Thus I called the police to alert them and he drove the police station. I still refused to pay out because he was so out of order and they locked me up for being drunk and disorderly. At this point I was very upset. However I fully cooperated, they never handcuffed me nor had to use any type of force. THe next day I was given a fine and has my DNA etc took. Sorry this is a long story but best knowing the details. What I need to know is Do I have a case if i go the mags and deteste the fine and the charge? How will this impact on my career? Iam a student and and this is my first run in with the police! What type of searches with this charge be brought up on?
