Charles H. Joffe, a co-producer of Woody Allen's movies and the business expert in the talent agency that managed the budding careers of a host of high-profile comedians that also included Robin Williams, Billy Crystal and David Letterman, died Wednesday, on his 79th birthday, in Los Angeles.

David H. Greene, 94, Irish literature scholar
David H. Greene, a leading scholar of Irish literature and one of the authorized biographers of the playwright J.M. Synge, the author of "The Playboy of the Western World," died July 9 near his home in Boynton Beach, Fla. He was 94.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2008, in Willamette National Cemetery for Donald A. Shelton, who died May 30 at age 86.

Earl Kennis Anderson
A service will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday, July 21, 2008, in Willamette National Cemetery for Earl Kennis Anderson, who died July 12, at age 64.

Expert on Mesoamerican archaeology, 82
William T. Sanders, an anthropologist whose influential studies of early civilizations in Mexico and Central America included a vast and invaluable aerial survey of ancient archaeological sites, died July 2 in State College, Pa. He was 82.

Les Crane, a provocative talk-show host who was the first to challenge the primacy of Johnny Carson on late-night TV -- and lose -- died July 13 in Greenbrae, Calif., north of San Francisco. He was 74 and lived in Belvedere, Calif.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 26, 2008, in Good Shepherd Community Church in Boring for Nancy L. Johnson, who died July 14 at age 62.

Patricia Buckley Bozell, Catholic activist, editor
Patricia Buckley Bozell, 81, who was a matriarch of a prominent conservative family and helped start Triumph, an opinion journal of Catholic orthodoxy, died July 12 at her home in Washington, D.C. She had throat cancer.

Virologist Howard L. Bachrach, who purified the polio and foot and mouth disease viruses and was the first to use genetic engineering to produce a vaccine, died June 26 in Atlantis, Fla. He was 88 and had been suffering from heart disease, according to his daughter, Eve Bachrach.
