Cavanaugh's trio sang with Sinatra
Jazz pianist and singer Page Cavanaugh, whose popular trio in the 1940s and 1950s played in motion pictures and on Frank Sinatra's radio show, died Dec. 19 in the Los Angeles area. He was 86.

Connie Belasquez Arechiga
Recitation of the rosary followed by a Mass of Christian burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, in Holy Cross Catholic Church for Connie Belasquez Arechiga, who died Dec. 23 at age 86.

Innovative president, chairman of Seatrain Lines
Howard M. Pack, who as president and later chairman of Seatrain Lines was a leader in changing the way ships carry goods from port to port, died Dec. 9 in Manhattan. He was 90.

Scandal loomed over civil rights leader
The Rev. James L. Bevel, a prominent figure in the civil rights movement whose legacy was clouded by an incest conviction, died Dec. 19, a relative said. He was 72.

Sir Bernard Crick, 79, Orwell biographer
Sir Bernard Crick, a prominent democratic socialist and political theorist who also wrote the first complete biography of George Orwell, died Dec. 19 of cancer in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was 79.

Writer's topics included mysteries, Beatles, psychology
Julius Fast, who won the first Edgar Award given by the Mystery Writers of America and went on to publish popular books on body language, the Beatles and human relationships, died Dec. 16 in Kingston, N.Y. He was 89.
