A funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, 2008, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home for Samuel Anthony Johnson of Camas, who died Sept. 25 at age 51.

Tai Man Wu
A funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, 2008, in Mt. Scott Funeral Home for Tai Man Wu, who died Sept. 26 at age 66.

Tuskegee Airman Vernon Sport was an advocate for civil rights
Until Vernon K. Sport and other members of the Tuskegee Airmen received a Congressional Gold Medal last year, many of Sport's friends in Conyers, Ga., had no idea he had been part of the nation's first group of African American military pilots.

Upbeat singer performed with Dorsey, Sinatra
Connie Haines, a big-voiced singer with a zippy, rhythmic style who most famously teamed up with Frank Sinatra as lead vocalists with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, then went on to a prolific career of her own, died Monday in Clearwater Beach, Fla. She was 87.
